Causes and Consequences of Youth Homelessness
- 29% of homeless youth report having substance misuse problems.
- 69% of homeless youth report mental health problems.
- 33% had once been part of the foster care system.
- 50% of homeless youth have been in the juvenile justice system, in jail, or detention.
- 1 in 10 young adults ages 18-25 & at least 1 in 30 adolescents ages 13-17 experience homelessness unaccompanied by a parent or guardian in an year.
- The lack of a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is the number one correlate for elevated risk of youth homelessness.
Our Impact
Transitional Housing With Support
The housing program will be a state-of-the-art facility that houses up to 10 residents at a time. Residents receive support with health and mental health needs, spirituality development, and support to achieve employment and education goals. The stability provided by Koinonia Renew empowers young people to build communities, pursue their dreams, and pave their way for successful and independent living for years to come. Supportive services are individually tailored to capitalize on each youth’s strengths as they progress toward self-sufficiency and stability. Koinonia Renew believes the close community is beneficial because the residents will be able to live around like-minded individuals who share similar struggles and challenges.
